Maian Media v1.5

E-mail Print PDF

Thanks to all the users who have supported this project for the last 3 years.  Your donations and idea’s are truly appreciated.  I have been working hard at delivering a new solution to the Are Times community.  With the beta testing help of Mike Bertelsen of http://sp34k.com/  I’m pleased  to present Maian Media v1.5.
The major difference between this and other release is that I have re-engineered to code to support templates that are independent of the core functionality.  Many users have been reluctant to upgrade because of the customizations that they have made to their store designs.  Now with this new implementation they can transfer their custom files and make there own templates.  The templates sit in the following location.

components\com_maianmedia\templates

For the free version you will notice 3 templates that are now part of the install.  Classic, Contemporary (Allows for multiple columns)  and Furious (Donated by Marc Wolf of http://www.nibiri.com).  The Silver version has a template called MooFlow (http://www.outcut.de/MooFlow/) that takes advantage of Mootools 1.2.  Some code may need to be added to your template  to insure it works correctly

The current the folder structure for a template and it’s mapping to older versions is as follows

The current the folder structure for a template and it’s mapping to older versions is as follows

1.5.x
tempalte_name
|_assets
 |_css     <---------------> views/mm_stylesheet.css and rss_style.css
 |_media
  |_cart              <---------------> media\cart (Folder)
  |_icons   <---------------> media\icons (Folder)
|_email     <---------------> html\email (Folder)
|_pages     <----------------> html (All Files in base folder)
|_paypal   <---------------> html \paypal (Folder)
|_tpl     <---------------> html \tpl (Folder)
|_helper.php     <---------------> Add Helper Functions for your template here.
|_templateDetails.xml     <---> Add Parameters for your template here.
|_view.html.php     <---> Main functions that render the different views.

For compatibility reasons I have ensured that files in the tpl folder that have references to  components/com_maianmedia/media

will be rewritten to
components/com_maianmedia/templates/template_name/media

It will be good to fully qualify the path to the template but if your upgrading from a previous version you should have any references that are broken.  In the php files the function getTplPath($this->skin_name) will aid in generating the correct paths.  it also has a option parameter that helps with image and css assets.  To get to the image folder you can call it like so.

getTplPath($this->skin_name, 'img')

css files are called with a similar syntax.

getTplPath($this->skin_name, 'css’)

I hope these new features will inspire others to create cool looking templates for the maian media platform. Given that this is the first release there might be some hiccups along the way.  Please be sure to post your issues in the support forum.  For the next release I will be working on 1.6 compatibility and creating a template and module for Falbell.  Until next time.
